Travel [part 3]
When I think of travel, I think about new people, new places, new experiences! Did this program have it…..HELL YEAH!
During my 16 weeks on the program I taught in 24 different schools, in six of Austria’s nine ‘Bundeslände’. I taught in the second smallest school in Austria, I taught in the center of cities like Vienna, Salzburg, Linz! I taught in towns like Krems, Tulln, Wels. In villages like Puchberg am Schneeberg, Sitzendorf, Kittsee. And I loved it all! As a group, we travelled on weekends to Bratislava, Munich and Budapest! We visited Austrian lakes, the Vienna Christmas markets, Schönbrunn Palace, Hallstatt, Schloss Mirabell and much more! Oh boy did we travel!! My personal goal for after the program was to stay in Austria, however some of the other student teachers on my program had much bigger ambitions! They now work in places like Beijing, South America, Madrid, Germany, Los Angeles, Poland, the UK, Moscow, Cairo, Thailand… the list goes on (I have a looong list of holiday destinations to visit)! After the program I was actually lucky enough to have been asked to stay and teach for the Academy in Austrian schools. After 4 more months of teaching under the guidance of the course tutors I was then promoted to join the senior teacher team in Vienna, something I done with pride for two more years. I have taught in classrooms with the most incredible mountain views, I even taught in a school which doubled as a ski resort hotel! I have gone full circle. I have laughed with my student teachers, cried with my student teachers, eaten plenty of delicious Austrian cake, downed bottles of water in the heat of summer and supped more cups of tea to warm myself during the cold winter than I would even dare to remember. Would I do it all again… YES, yes I would!
